Instances That Require Residential Plumbing Repair and Not DIY Fixes

Plumbing hiccups are unavoidable in a residential setting. Irrespective of how many people in your household, wear to your pipes, hardware and fittings are inevitable because of the constant, daily use of the plumbing system. Since these plumbing issues are common, some homeowners may think that taking a wrench to their pipes or a snake to their drains will fix the problem. However, you could be exacerbating the problem and end up causing irreparable damage to your plumbing system.

To prevent a catastrophe, the following are instances that will require professional plumbing repair rather than a DIY fix.

Dwindling water pressure

When your taps and showerheads start dribbling water rather than emitting high pressure, it can be a cause of frustration for you. The mistake some individuals make is attempting to jab wires or other items down the fixture under the presumption that it could be a blockage causing the diminished pressures. The truth is that pressure issues can stem from a myriad of causes ranging from holes in your pipes to large obstructions inside the sewer system. For starters, the moment that you notice that your water pressure is low, it is mandatory to call your plumber so that they can investigate the primary problem and subsequently engage in the necessary residential plumbing repairs so that you can avoid a bigger problem such as water damage to your property.

Hot water shortage

If your hot water is completely lacking, then the issue could be that your hot water heater has failed irreparably damage and you may have to replace it in its entirety. Nonetheless, if it is a shortage you are experiencing, such as the hot water not staying hot for too long or it is staying at a lukewarm temperature, it could mean that one of the components may have a defect. But just because it could be a damaged component does not mean you should start tinkering with the hot water tank. Since this equipment is powered by either electricity or gas, there is always the risk of getting burnt or electrocuted. Only a licensed plumbing technician should check what is causing your water heater to act up and restore its functionality.

Cracks in your pipes

While a majority of your plumbing system is out of sight, some pipes can be exposed in crawl spaces, the attic or even your basement. It is your duty to check the condition of these pipes constantly since their state can be indicative of the condition of your entire plumbing system. If the pipes are made of iron, check for signs of rust and have it addressed or replaced them altogether with PVC pipes that will not corrode. Additionally, if you notice any cracks on the pipes, it is critical to have them repaired immediately or you stand the chance of dealing with a burst pipe down the road.
